GoI to launch two centres of excellence for Tribal Welfare

The Union Ministry of Tribal  Affairs is to launch two centres of Excellence for the tribal welfare. The centres are to be launched in collaboration between Art of Living and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Highlights

The aim of the centres is to focus on strengthening the PRIS and to train the tribal farmers. Each centre is to take up one goal and will exclusively work on it.

The PRI is Panchayat Raj Institutions.

Strengthening the PRIs

It will create awareness about the tribal acts and rules. Also, the excellence centre through the initiative will make welfare schemes available to the tribal population.

By this, even the illiterate tribal shall gain access to welfare schemes launched by the GoI. Also, the CoE being established under the initiative will identify youth volunteers for whom personality development training is to be provided. Also, the initiative will seek to create tribal leaders who will be ready to work for their community. The initiative will instill a sense of responsibility among the youth.

Training to Tribal Farmers

The other Centre of Excellence is to implement the initiative of Training to Tribal Farmers. The initiative will train 10000 tribal farmers in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. It is to provide training on sustainable natural farming. The training is to be provided based on “Go-Adharith” Farming Techniques. This technique will help the farmers get organic certification.

Tribal Welfare Scheme

The Government of India had launched the following Tribal Welfare scheme

  • Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana
  • Eklavya Model Residential Schools
  • Scheme for Vocational Training in Tribal Areas
  • Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribla Groups
  • To support through Tribal Research Institute
  • Adivasi Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana
  • Adivasi Shiksha Rrinn Yojana.

The following are the Tribal Protection legislation in India. They are

  • PESA act was extended to the scheduled areas in 1996
  • SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities’ Act
  • Forest Rights Act Monitoring System
  • The ST and traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act 2006
