GoI approves two AIIMS institutes and 9 medical colleges for Jammu and Kashmir
Since the Abrogation of Article 370, the GoI has been keenly focussing on improving the infrastructure in the Kashmir region.
Highlights
The AIIMS proposal was approved by the Union Government under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The cost of the project estimated is Rs 1,661 crores. The project is to be completed by 2022. The AIIMS will also hold nursing college. Above al, the building is to be constructed as green building.
Green Building
Green Building is a structure that is resource efficient and environmentally responsible. The building is resource efficient through out its phase starting from design, construction, maintenance, renovation and demolition.
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana was launched in 2006. Under the scheme, 6 institutions of AIIMS were to be built in first phase. They were in the states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Uttaranchal and Rajasthan.
In the second phase, 2 AIIMS were set up in UP and West Bengal. Also, 6 medical colleges were set up
In the third phase existing medical colleges were upgraded.
