Goa: The First State to become COVID-19 free; Manipur-Second
On April 21, 2020, Goa became the first state in the country to become free of COVID-19. After Goa, Manipur becomes COVID-19 free.
Highlights
There were total of seven positive cases in the state of Goa. Since April 3, 2020, the state had not reported a single case. However, risks looms around Goa as 7,000 seamen are to return to the state.
Following Goa, Manipur became COVID-19 free.
The Union Ministry has asked the states to strictly abide by the lock down rules issued. Some of the states like West Bengal, Maharashtra were not following the lock down guidelines. Around six inter-ministerial committees were set to check on these states.
Current Scenario
Currently, around 59 districts of 23 states have become COVID-19 free. When a district does not report a new COVID-19 case in 14 days, it is being declared COVID-19 free. Also, Mahe in Puducherry, Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand, Kodagu of Karnataka have not reported new cases in 28 days.
