Global Pandemic Radar
United Kingdom in collaboration with the World Health Organization has launched plans for global pandemic radar that will be used to track any Covid variants or any other emerging diseases that can spread across the world completely unchecked. The plan has been launched by Boris Johnson, the current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Q1. How will the Global Pandemic Radar work?
The radar will work by uploading real time data regarding any such disease and also its genome sequence and how one should response to it. Doing this will lead to early detection of any such virus or new variants of Covid and vaccines and treatments and treatment facilities can be developed quickly by the countries around the world. The radar is expected to become fully functional by the end of 2021.
Q2. What is the view of WHO regarding this global pandemic radar?
The World Health Organization (WHO) is also of the view that such measures should be taken so that the world does not suffer any such pandemics as the COVID-19 in the near future.
Q3. What is the meaning of genome sequencing?
Genome Sequencing is the process of determining the order of the nucleotide bases (A, T, G, and C) that constitutes the DNA molecules. Genome sequencing of viruses is done to study its structure and develop suitable vaccines.
Q4. What is World Health Organization?
World Health Organization is an agency of the United Nations that is responsible for maintaining international public health, development of vaccines, monitoring health risks, universal healthcare, etc. WHO was formed in the year 1948 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
