Global IndiaAI Summit 2024

The Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, spoke at the opening session of the Global IndiaAI Summit 2024 in New Delhi about how important Artificial Intelligence (AI) is to solving issues around the world. In order to control and use the potential of AI technologies, he stressed the need for a unified global approach. He said that individual countries’ efforts alone would not be successful.

Global Collaboration on AI

The conference gave people a chance to think about what they’ve learned about AI over the past year and start coming up with a unified way to regulate and use AI technologies. Minister Vaishnaw said that this meeting would set the stage for what India would do next in this area. He also talked about the government’s plan to “democratize” technology so that everyone can use it. He compared this to other places where technology is controlled by a small group of people, usually big tech companies or the government.

India’s Approach to AI Utilisation

Minister Vaishnaw used India’s digital public infrastructure as an example of how AI could be made more accessible to everyone. This model avoids monopolies by any single service provider and shares the benefits among many people. He said he was going to do the same thing with AI by putting money into a public platform that would have all the tools they would need, such as computing power, high-quality datasets, and a full technical and legal framework. This tool will help startups, entrepreneurs, and academics working in a wide range of fields. It will also encourage the development and use of AI solutions in a way that benefits everyone.

AI in Healthcare, Agriculture, and Education

Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada stressed again how important it is for countries to work together to create AI solutions that can help with problems in important areas like education, healthcare, and agriculture. He talked about current AI projects like disease diagnosis using AI, individual lesson plans, and farming advice that have worked well in India and might be used all over the world.

Risks and Challenges of AI

Even though AI has benefits, both ministers were aware of its risks, such as the fact that it can threaten democracy and make it easier for fake news to spread through technologies like deep fakes. Prasada talked about the steps that Indian cybersecurity agencies took to reduce these risks during the recent elections. He stressed that everyone needs to work together to handle and stop AI-related security threats. At the end of the meeting, India’s efforts to create a collaborative, fair, and safe future for AI technologies were emphasized. The goal was to combine innovation with broad access and strict safety measures.
