Gas production from KG-D6 declines
Gas output from India’s biggest gas producing fields in the Krishna Godavari basin (KG-D6) continued to decline and reched its lowest level since its inception. After touching peak production levels of 60 million of gas per day (mmscmd), the output was 22.77 mmscmd in the week ending December 9.
What are the reasons for the fall in output?
- High water and sand ingress into the fields were cited as the main reasons for shutting 7 out of the 18 producing wells in the KG-D6 block.
- The target output for this time of the year is 80 mmscmd.
About KG-D6
KG stands for Krishna-Godavari Basin which is a peri-cratonic passive margin basin spread across more than 50,000 square kilometers in the Krishna River and Godavari River basins in Andhra Pradesh. D-6 is the block where Reliance Industries discovered the biggest natural gas reserves in India in 2002.
Project in KG-D6 is also known as “KG-DWN-98/1”.
Stakes in the project are as follows:
- RIL holds 60%
- BP of UK holds 30%
- Niko Resources of Canada holds 10%
