French Polynesia

French Polynesia is a group of 118 islands and atolls in the South Pacific Ocean. It is an oversea collectivity (semi-autonomous) region of the French Republic. It is divided into 5 groups- Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Gambier Islands, Marquesas Islands and Austral Islands. A recently released investigative report, Moruroa Files, found that 1,10,000 people were affected by the early French nuclear tests on these islands. Over a period of 30 years, since 1966, 193 nuclear tests were carried out in the French Polynesia.
