Freedom fighters to get another DR instalment

  • The Central government has decided to grant another instalment of Dearness Relief (DR) to the Freedom Fighters and their eligible dependents under the Swatantra Sainik Samman Pension Scheme, at a rate of 20 per cent with effect from August 1.
  • The total Dearness Relief payable to various categories of freedom fighters and their eligible dependents would thus be 143 per cent. After the increase in the dearness relief, the ex-Andaman political prisoners would now get a monthly pension of Rs 10,482 as against Rs 7,330 earlier. For freedom fighters who suffered outside British India (other than INA), it would be Rs 9,767 as against Rs 6,830 earlier.
  • For other freedom fighters, the enhanced monthly pension would now be Rs 9,052 as against Rs 6,330 earlier. In case of widow or widower of the above categories of freedom fighters, the entitlement would be the same as of the respective deceased freedom fighter. As for the unmarried or unemployed daughters of freedom fighters (subject to a maximum of three such daughters at a time) the pension would be Rs 2,145 each as against Rs 1,500 each earlier for all three daughters. Similarly, in case of mother and father of freedom fighters, as against a monthly pension of Rs 1000 each now it would now be Rs 1,430 each per month.
