Forbes releases world's top 100 'Most Powerful Women List'

Forbes magazine has released the list of World’s 100 Most Powerful Women Leaders for the year 2013. From India, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and India-origin PepsiCo chief Indra Nooyi stand among the top 10 in the list of most powerful women in the world.
Sonia Gandhi stands at 9th, while Indra Nooyi is ranked at 10th on the chart.
Other Indians in Top 100

  • Chanda Kochhar (ranked 65th): ICICI Bank Managing Director and CEO
  • Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (85th) : Founder of Biccon has secured the 85th position on the global list.
  • Padmasree Warrior (57th) : Cisco Systems Chief Technology and Strategy Officer

How they arrived at these rankings?
A list of influential individuals was prepared from seven different categories or power bases:

  1. Billionaires
  2. Business
  3. Lifestyle (including entertainment and fashion)
  4. Media
  5. Nonprofits and NGOs
  6. Politics
  7. Technology

Then individuals in each of the above categories were weighted by using three metrics:

  1. Money
  2. Media presence
  3. Impact

Who is the most powerful women in the world?
German chancellor Angela Merkel has been named as the most powerful woman in the world for the third successive year. She is followed by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff who is at second spot while Melinda Gates, co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation in third.
Others on the list include Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg at rank 6th, Christine IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde at 7th, Oprah Winfrey at 13th and Aung San Suu Kyi at 29th.
