Food Corporation of India sets record: Movement of 1.93 lakh tonnes of grains in one day
The Food Corporation has made sure that there is no disruption in the supply of essential goods to the citizens since the lock down. Abiding to its determined goal of serving the citizens, the FCI has set a new record. It has moved about 1.93 lakh tonnes of food grains in a single day on April 3, 2020
Highlights
The FCI had moved 1.41 lakh tonnes of food grains during the 12 days since the beginning of lock down. Of the total food grains transported during this period, 46% were from Punjab. Following Punjab, food grains were also transported from Haryana, Telangana, Chhattisgarh. Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Current Scenario
In order to meet the requirements of National Food Security Act, the FCI is providing wheat and rice directly. The usual E-Auction route has currently been put on hold. This is being done to ensure there is continuous supply of food grains in the market. The GoI is supplying FCI delivered food grains through Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana.
