First Silk Processing Plant of Gujarat in Surendranagar

The first Silk Processing Plant of Gujarat was inaugurated on Friday 3rd January 2020, at Surendranagar district of Saurashtra region under the initiative taken by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The plant is set up by a Khadi Institute for decreasing the production cost of silk yarn drastically that will result in an overall increase in the availability of raw material for the locally made patola sarees. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission contributed Rs 60 Lakh out of the total Rs 75 Lakh invested for setting up of the plant.

At the inauguration event, the Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission informed that cocoons for processing silk yarns will be brought from the states of West Bengal and Karnataka that will further generate livelihood for the locals, at present the plant has employed 90 local women, productions of silk yarn locally will boost the sales of locally made patola saree resulting in an increased demand for more locally produced material thus creating more employment.
