First In-depth Review of India’s Energy Policies launched by IEA

India became an Association member of the Paris based autonomous intergovernmental organization, the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2017, the first in-depth review of India’s energy policies was released by the International Energy Agency on Friday, 10th January 2020 in partnership with the policy think tank of the Government of India, NITI Aayog. The review report highlighted the achievements of the energy policies made in India by strongly encouraging the Government of India to institutionalizing a National Energy Policy Framework with the coordination of other forms of Government in the country, and provides recommendations for boosting the deployment of renewable energy across the country, in assisting the government’s goal of promoting well-functioning energy markets and will help in achieving secure and sustainable energy access for the citizens of India.

Share of variable renewable for electricity generation in renewable-rich states of India is already above 15 percent, which calls for establishing a dedicated, improved and flexible National policy that will ensure smooth integration with the National Power System.
