First-ever Socially-distanced Cycle Training Course Launched in London
The London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, recently launched the first-ever socially-distanced cycling training course in the city. The investment in online training will equip the citizens of the city with the skills needed to cycle safely during the COVID 19 pandemic.
The program has been launched as the mayor cycled along part of a newly segregated 2.4 km route between London’s Chelsea Bridge and Lambeth Bridge. Under this program, every borough in London will be given 60000 pounds in order to enable them to deliver socially-distanced Bikeability and Cycle Skills training, starting from next month onwards.
The city administration is busy in constructing 20 km stretch under the Streetspace for London Program in addition to the 17 km of new cycle lanes already constructed under this program.
Streetspace for London
The program has been launched by the London Mayor in order to ensure the transformation of roads in the city giving space to new cycle lanes and wider pavements to enable social distancing. The landmark locations in the city will benefit from temporary bike routes and more space for walking so that the pressure on bikes and tubes can be reduced. The overall objective is to ensure clean, green and sustainable travel post the lockdown imposed due to COVID 19.
