Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attends 3rd G20 Finance Minister and Central Bank Governors Meeting

The Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, participated in the 3rd G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under the Presidency of Saudi Arabia, through video conferencing, in order to deliberate on issues pertaining to the global economic outlook and G20 Finance Track priorities for the year 2020.

On 15th April 2020, the G20 Action Plan against COVID 19 was adopted and in this meeting, the FM discussed regarding the progress of the plan. This plan laid out in detail a list of collective commitments under the heads of health response, economic response, strong and sustainable recovery and international financial coordination aimed at coordinating a committed effort on the part of the G20 countries.

The Finance Minister also raised issues such as enhancing access to opportunities to women, youth and SMEs. The international taxation agenda was also discussed in the meeting and the FM also focused on the steps taken by the government to fight against the COVID 19 Pandemic in India. She also highlighted the measures taken by the government to provide free food grain to around 800 million people for 8 months till November 2020.
