Filchner Ronne Ice Shelf
Filchner Ronne Ice Shelf is the 2nd largest ice shelf in Antarctica after the Ross Ice Shelf. The ice shelf is located on the border of the Weddell Sea. It grows continuously due to flow of ice sheets from inland. Recently, researchers reported the presence of unidentified species beneath this shelf. These species are related to sponges, sea squirts, barnacles, ascidians, etc. The area is devoid of sunlight and extremely cold temperatures.
