Feni Bridge to be completed by December 2020
The Feni bridge is 1.8 km long joining Sabrum in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. The Government of India recently announced that the bridge construction is to be completed by December 2020.
About the Bridge
The bridge is to be built over Feni river. It will link Tripura with Bangladesh. The construction of the bridge began in December 2010. After completion, the bridge will be the only land link between India’s eastern states and its western states other than Assam. The key stone for the bridge was officially laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in June 2015.

It is a cross border river There were several arguments between India and Pakistan over the water rights of the river before Bangladesh became independent. The Feni River originates in South Tripura district. It flows through Sabroom town and then enters Bangladesh.
What is the dispute over Feni River?
The water sharing dispute between India and Pakistan began in 1958. Pakistan reported that, “India is trying to draw out water from Feni River for irrigation projects in exchange of solving erosion issue in Bangladesh side of this bordering river.”
According to an Indian declaration on the water sharing, “Feni River has been added to its mandate in the 36th JRC meeting”
What is the course of Feni River?
Feni River derived in South Tripura district. It flows through Sabroom town and then enters Bangladesh. Muhuri River is also called Little Feni. Muhuri River flows from Noakhali District joins it near its mouth. The river is crossable throughout the year. It is crossable by small boats up to Ramgarh, some 80 kilometres (50 mi) upstream.
