February 4: World Cancer Day
The World Cancer Day is being marked annually on February 4 by the Union for International Cancer Control. The day is being marked from 2008. The day is observed by the United Nations as well. The theme of this year’s World Cancer Day is

Highlights
According to WHO, every year 8.8 million people die of cancer in low- and middle-income countries. The World Cancer Day is marked to reduce illness and death caused by cancer.
Union for International Cancer Control
It is a Non-Governmental Organization that was formed in 1933. The headquarters of the organization is located in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization works towards reducing global cancer burden and to integrate cancer control measures into world health agenda.
The organization conducts World Cancer Congress, World Cancer Leaders’ Summit, GAPRI (Global Access to Pain Relief Initiative), ChiCa (Childhood Cancer), GETI (Global Education and Training Initiative), GICR (Global Initiative for Cancer Registries).
