February 25: First anniversary of National War Memorial commemorated

On February 25, 2020, the first anniversary of National War Memorial was commemorated. The CDS Bipin Rawat paid tribute to the memorial and so did several other leaders of the country.

The Memorial was inaugurated by PM Modi on February 25, 2019.

Highlights

The memorial was dedicated by the Prime Minster to honour the fallen heroes of wars. Today, more than 5,000 people visit the monument everyday. The monument was built in 40 acres of land at India Gate, New Delhi. The monument honours more than 26,000 soldiers.

The Monument holds “Veerta Chakra” that depicts 6 important battles of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. It also holds 14 lakh litre water storage tank for rainwater harvesting.

India Gate

India Gate is also a war memorial. It was built in 1931 to commemorate the Martyrs of India who died in World War I. It bears names of more than 13,516 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the war.
