Fact Sheet: Sampoornata Abhiyan

The Indian government’s NITI Aayog recently started the Sampoornata Abhiyan, a development program. It was held in Manzgam Block, Kulgam. A lot of people from local government and schools were there to launch this program. Through the saturation of key development indicators, the project wants to change Manzgam from an Aspirational Block to an Inspirational Block.

Recent Initiatives

A big event was held to start the program at the Government Higher Secondary School in Manzgam. Important people like Mohd Afzal Parrey, who is the Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, and Athar Aamir, who is the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, were there. The main goal of this project is for all measures to show progress within three months, to make a big positive change in the block’s social and economic situation.

Program Goals and Implementation

The Deputy Commissioner laid out detailed goals to reach full saturation of certain markers that would greatly aid the growth of the Manzgam Block as a whole. Coordinated efforts from local line departments were stressed as being very important for getting the program done on time.

Community Participation and Activities

The launch event also had a lot of community involvement, with a marathon that students ran in and various registration booths for local beneficiaries that were looked at by important people. These kinds of activities not only encourage people to get involved in their communities, but they also make sure that a lot of people gain from the Sampoornata Abhiyan’s plans for development.

Mateen Nazir, a Guest Observer from NITI Aayog, talked about the initiative’s national context and how it fits into the government of India’s three-month effort to change things for the better. The campaign’s goal is to cover six important factors in 112 Aspirational Districts and 500 Aspirational Blocks, which includes Manzgam. The launch of the Sampoornata Abhiyan in Manzgam is a major step toward the overall development of the area. With the planned saturation of the listed indicators and the community’s and local government’s work together, Manzgam is well on its way to becoming a model for rural growth that other communities can follow.
