Facebook to Have New Section on Corona Myths
The social media giant, Facebook, has announced that it will have a new section in order to debunk the myths regarding Coronavirus. This section will contain myths identified by the World Health Organization such as drinking bleach or taking hydroxychloroquine can prevent COVID 19 in human beings.
To be launched this week, the section is the latest step by the company to have a dedicated section to prevent the spread the misinformation regarding the pandemic. In order to create awareness regarding personal safety measures, the company is already adding reminders on the website as well as the app in order to make people wear masks.
In a statement, the company has stated that it has connected over two billion people to resources from various health authorities through the COVID 19 information centre and pop-ups on Facebook and Instagram with over 600 million people clicking through to learn more. People have also raised $100 million for COVID 19 related fundraisers through both these social media networks.
Facebook has also slammed the US Response to the pandemic since according to its CEO, many developing countries have handled the pandemic in a better manner as compared to the USA.
World Health Organization
It is a specialized agency of the United Nations in order to take care of public health on the global level. It was established in 1948 and its foundation i.e. 07th April is also observed as the World Health Day. Its mandate includes advocating for universal healthcare, monitoring public health risks, coordinating responses to health emergencies and promoting human health and well-being. It is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
