Current Export Duty on Sugar

On March 20, 2018, the Central Board of Excise and Custom scrapped the export duty of raw and refined sugar in order to boost the sugar exports. In the 2017-18 marketing session, India is expected to record 29.5 million tonnes of sugar. The export duty, before it was removed, was 20%.

Current Sugar Production Data

India’s sugar production in 2016-17 marketing season (sugar marketing seasons is October to September) 20.3 million tone. The demand for sugar is around 25 million tonne. In 2017-18 marketing season, the estimated sugar production is 29.5 million tonne. To discourage imports, CBEC had earlier also doubled the import duty.
