Exercise Shakti

The Exercise Shakti is an Indo – French Joint Exercise conducted biennially. The sixth edition of the exercise was held in November 2021.

What is Exercise Shakti?

  • The Indo – French Joint Exercise Shakti is held alternately in India and France.
  • The exercise mainly focuses on counter terrorism operations. The training of the exercise mainly focuses on high degree fitness.
  • It also includes sharing of knowledge related to drills that take place at tactical level

What is the aim of the Exercise?

The main aim of Exercise Shakti is to enhance defence understanding, promote cooperation between army troops and improve sustainability of interoperability between Indian and French armies.

Where was the exercise held?

The first edition of Exercise Shakti was held in 2011 in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The second edition was held in 2013 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The fourth edition was held in Maily – le – Camp in France. The fifth edition was held in 2019 in Rajasthan.

What are the other “Shakti” exercises held by India?

The “Gagan Shakti” Exercise is conducted by the Indian Air Force in the Indian Ocean Region. The “Garuda Shakti” is a joint military exercise held between India and Indonesia. The “Mitra Shakti” is a joint military exercise held between India and Sri Lanka.
