Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023
The Indian and Malaysian armies have kicked off their joint bilateral training exercise, known as “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023,” at Umroi Cantonment. This collaborative effort between the two nations seeks to strengthen their military capabilities and deepen the bonds of friendship.
Collaboration of Forces
The Malaysian Army contingent, comprising troops from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army, joins hands with the Indian contingent represented by a battalion of THE RAJPUT REGIMENT. This exercise is a follow-up to the previous edition held in Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia, in November 2022.
Exercise Duration and Objectives
“Exercise Harimau Shakti” is scheduled to run until November 5, 2023, involving approximately 120 personnel from both sides. The primary objective is to enhance military capabilities for conducting Multi Domain Operations in sub-conventional scenarios.
Key Activities
During the exercise, both contingents will establish a Joint Command Post and an integrated surveillance grid, alongside a Joint Surveillance Centre. The training will focus on coordinated deployment of joint forces in various environments, including jungles, semi-urban, and urban areas. Intelligence collection, collation, and dissemination exercises will also be conducted.
Integration of Modern Technology
The exercise will incorporate modern technology, including Drones/UAVs and Helicopters. Special attention will be given to casualty management and evacuation drills. Logistics management and survival training at the battalion level are crucial components of the training program.
Emphasis on Fitness and Tactical Skills
The primary emphasis during the training will be on achieving a high level of physical fitness, conducting tactical drills, and sharing best practices with each other. The exercise will culminate in a challenging 48-hour validation exercise set in a semi-urban environment.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
“Exercise Harimau Shakti” represents a significant effort to enhance defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army. Beyond military objectives, it aims to foster stronger bilateral relations between these two nations, solidifying the bonds of collaboration and friendship that have been developed over the years.
