The Indian Air Force (IAF) has arrived at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates to participate in Exercise Desert Flag-10. This multinational air combat exercise runs from April 21 to May 8, 2025. It includes air forces from various nations, enhancing global military collaboration.

Exercise Desert Flag-10 is hosted by the UAE Air Force.
It features participation from Australia, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The exercise aims to simulate complex aerial combat scenarios. It allows for operational knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices among the world’s leading air forces.

Objectives of the Exercise

The primary aim is to enhance interoperability among participating nations. It focuses on undertaking diverse fighter engagements. The exercise promotes mutual understanding and strengthens military cooperation. Such drills are vital for improving war-fighting skills and operational readiness.

IAF’s Role and Aircraft Deployment

The IAF is deploying MiG-29 and Jaguar aircraft for the exercise. These aircraft are crucial for executing the complex scenarios planned during the drills. The participation of the IAF puts stress on India’s commitment to boosting defence ties with friendly nations.

India-UAE Defence Relationship

Defence cooperation between India and the UAE has been steadily growing. Regular high-level exchanges at the level of Service Chiefs encourage strong ties. Strategic Significance

Recent discussions between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and UAE officials have focused on enhancing collaboration in defence and technology. This includes the potential export of indigenous defence systems like the Akash missile.

Trilateral Defence Collaborations

India, the UAE, and France have initiated a trilateral framework for defence cooperation. This collaboration includes joint military exercises and initiatives. The countries conducted the Desert Knight exercise to enhance military interoperability. Their navies have also engaged in maritime exercises to address both traditional and non-traditional threats.
