Ex-Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk named as caretaker PM of Pakistan

Pakistan’s former Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk was named as country’s caretaker Prime Minister for two-month period ahead of general elections to be held in July 2018. The job of caretaker Prime Minister is to keep country running between dissolution of parliament and new government being sworn in. The present ruling government will complete tenure in May 2018 and caretaker government will remain in office until new government is set up through elections. The interim caretaker administration usually does not make any major decisions until new government is elected, though it may act to shore up economy in case of worsening macro-economic outlook.

Nasirul Mulk

Mulk was born on August 17, 1950 in Mingora, Swat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He had worked as lawyer and judge for several years before becoming 22nd Chief Justice of Pakistan (from July 2014 to August 2015). Earlier, he served as acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan (from November 2013 to July 2014).
