India to launch Project Dolphin

The Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that the holistic Project Dolphin would be launched in 15 days. This is in line with the announcement made by the Prime Minister during the 74th Independence Day. The project aims to conserve Gangetic river dolphins, which were declared as national aquatic species in 2010.

Internet connectivity restored in two districts of J&K

High-speed mobile data services were restored on trial basis in Ganderbal and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The trial period would be until 8th September. The speed, however, would continue to be restricted to 2G.

West Bengal to observe September 1 as Police Day

West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has announced that 1st September would be observed as Police Day in the state to recognise work done by the men in uniform, especially during the pandemic. The chief minister also announced several new projects for the Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police, which include setting up 20 new barracks and scope for promotion for women.

Malaysia detects highly infectious coronavirus strain

Malaysia has detected a strain of new coronavirus called D614G that is 10 times more infectious. The mutation was found in at least three of the 45 cases in a cluster. The strain could mean that the existing studies on vaccines could be incomplete or ineffective.

Tribal Affairs Minister inaugurates ‘Swasthya’ portal

E-portal on tribal health and nutrition called ‘Swasthya’ was inaugurated by Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda to provide health and nutrition related information of tribal population on a single platform. During this occasion, the minister talked of the initiatives taken in partnership with Facebook via Going Online as Leaders (GOAL) programme, which aims to make tribal youth village-level digital young leaders for communities.

Key military pact to be inked during next month India-Japan Summit

During the next month India-Japan Summit, both countries’ leaders are expected to sign off a key military logistic pact, Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA), and discuss the possibility of some Japanese manufacturing units shifting to India.

Pompeo inks deal to move US troops from Germany to Poland

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo signed an Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement with Poland for the redeployment of American troops from Germany to Poland. The deal will also boost other aspects of the bilateral ties like investments and trade.

Ace Classical Singer Pt. Jasraj Passes Away

One of India’s greatest Hindustani Classical Singer Pandit Jasraj has passed away at New Jersey, US at age of 90. Pt Jasraj of Mewati Gharana was born in Hisar in 1930 and had a musical career of more than 80 years.
