Etheostoma Obama: Freshwater Fish named after Barack Obama
Etheostoma obama, or the spangled darter, is a newly discovered species of relatively skinny orange and blue speckled freshwater fish that has been named after US President Barack Obama due to Barack Obama’s "global vision of environmental protection and conservation".
Scientists have discovered 5 new species of freshwater fish called Darters (belongs to perch family) in river drainages in eastern North America and named after four US presidents (Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Teddy Roosevelt and Jimmy Carter) and a vice-president (Al Gore). The other leaders were also picked for their environmental bona fides.
