Several initiatives support Divyangjan. The Deendayal Divyangjan Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) aids NGOs in providing rehabilitation services. Airports and railway stations are being improved for better access. According to the 2011 Census, India has over 2.68 crore PwDs, constituting 2.21% of the population.
