Elephant Friendly Certified Tea
In June 2017, Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN) and University of Montana, USA launched the world’s first Elephant Friendly Tea certification at World Tea Expo in Las Vegas.
About the Tag
The objective of Elephant Friendly Certified Tea is to raise fund for Asian elephant conservation. To get the certification, the tea plantation should be free of key issues that harm elephants like
- risk of electrocution,
- injury or death of elephants by falling on drains,
- risk of poisoning elephants from chemicals and
- blocking elephant corridors
In July 2017, small tea farmer, the Thirty-Year-Old Tenzing Bodosa’s plantations along India-Bhutan international border in Assam’s Udalguri district become world’s first to get the coveted Elephant Friendly™ Certified Tea.

- Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN) conserves threatened wildlife while contributing to the economic vitality of rural communities.
- The Network sets the global standard for wildlife friendly enterprise and assists members to reach new and dynamic markets.
- WFEN includes conservationists, businesses, artisans, farmers, ranchers and herders, and harvesters and indigenous peoples from around the world.
- WFEN arose from the Summit on Wildlife Friendly Enterprise held in March 2007 at the White Oak Conservation Centre in Yulee, Florida.
