Einsteinium

Einsteinium is the element 99 in the periodic table of elements. It was discovered in 1952 in the remnants of the ‘Ivy Mike’ thermonuclear device- the first hydrogen bomb- that was tested in the Pacific Ocean. It is named after Albert Einstein and is noted for its highly radioactive nature. It is a synthetic element and is difficult to create in lab. For the first time scientists have been able to characterise some of its properties by manufacturing nearly 250 nanograms of the element at the High Flux Isotope Reactor.
