ECoR becomes largest freight loading railway zone

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone headquartered in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) has emerged as largest Freight Loading Railway Zone the country in year 2015-16 in terms of revenue loading performance.
During 2015-16, the ECoR loaded 173.49 million tonnes of freight as compared to 161.91 during the 2014-15, registering a 7.1 per cent growth.
Similarly, the zone earned about 15978.28 crore rupees during the financial year 2015-16 which is 14.13 per cent more than the previous financial year.
Altogether, the ECoR carried 131.2 rakes loading per day from its jurisdiction in 2015-16 against 122.4 rakes per day in 2014-15.  It mainly included coal, cement, iron ore, food grains, POL and other commodities.

  • The ECoR zone is one of the sixteen railway zones of Indian Railways that came into existence on 1 April 2003.
  • As the name suggests, most of the railway routes of the zone are near the east coast of India.
  • The geographical jurisdiction of ECoR zone extends over three states covering Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
