E-Shram Portal: Empowering Unorganised Workers

The E-Shram Portal serves as a vital tool for unorganised workers in India, launched on August 26, 2021, it aims to create a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) verified through Aadhaar. This initiative enhances access to social security and job opportunities for millions. On December 19, 2024, over 30 crore workers have registered, demonstrating its impact.

Registration Process

Workers can register online at www.eshram.gov.in or visit Common Services Centres (CSCs) and State Seva Kendras (SSKs). Eligibility requires workers to be aged between 16 and 59, work in the unorganised sector, and possess an Aadhaar card, a mobile number linked to Aadhaar, and a bank account. They should not be members of the EPF or ESIC.

Features of the Portal

The portal offers several key features and provides a Universal Account Number (UAN) linked to Aadhaar. Registration is straightforward, requiring minimal documents. The portal supports multiple languages and has a grievance redressal system for issue resolution. It connects workers to employment opportunities, skill development, and social security schemes.

E-Shram promotes financial inclusion by facilitating direct payments to registered workers, which collects family details for migrant workers to ensure support for educational and women’s schemes. Data sharing with state and union governments enhances the implementation of welfare schemes.

In October 2024, the portal witnessed around 60,000 daily registrations. This surge indicates growing awareness and acceptance among unorganised workers. The E-Shram Portal is on track to transform the workforce landscape in India, empowering millions and encouraging a stronger economy.
