Dry eye syndrome
Dry eye syndrome is a disease that affects the tear glands of the eyes and causes redness, fatigue, itchiness and pain in the eyes. In the absence of treatment, it could even cause eye damage. Treatment involves frequent application of eye lubricants. About 5% of the adult human population across the world experience this syndrome. Recently, scientists succeeded in creating tear gland organoids in lab and this opens the possibility of developing more efficient treatments like tear gland transplantation.
