Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan nominated as the Director of US Government Agency- National Science Foundation(NSF)

Alma mater of University of Madras(B.Sc Physics 1981), Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (B.E Electronics and Communication Engineering), and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (M.Tech in Electrical Engineering), Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan has been nominated by the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump to serve as the 15th Director of the National Science Foundation(NSF).
Dr. Sethuraman was nominated as a member of the National Science Board of the National Science Foundation back in 2014 by then President of United States, Barack Obama.
Dr. Sethuraman is currently the Executive Vice President of the Knowledge Enterprise Development of Arizona State University(ASU), he is also the Chief Research and Innovation Officer at ASU.
The Director and Deputy Director of the National Science Foundation are nominated by the President of the United States, and confirmed by the Upper House of the Parliament of US, the Senate.
Dr. Sethuraman will succeed in the present 14th Director of NSF, Dr. France A. Cordova once her six-year term ends on 31st March 2020.
Earlier, BTech Graduate from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Subra Suresh was the 13th Director of NSF from 2010 to 2013, and the first Asian-Born scientist to lead the US Government agency, NSF. Dr. Sethuraman will become the 2nd Indian Born Scientist and 2nd Asian to lead the NSF.
