Dr Binayak Sen on plan panel’s committee on health
Naxal sympathizer Dr Binayak Sen was recently nominated in the Planning Commission’s committee on health. After spending months in custody on charges of sedition, award winning civil rights activist Sen was released recently after Supreme Court granted him bail.
- On 18 May 2011 Dr. Binayak Sen has been awarded the prestigious Gwangju Prize for human rights in South Korea.
The nomination of Dr. Sen on this committee was objected by Raman Singh, CM of Chhattisgarh. Recently, Raman Singh also skipped the crucial annual plan meeting at Planning Commission which was seen as protest against this nomination. In the absence of the CM and deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the commission cleared the state’s annual plan outlay of Rs 16,710 crore for fiscal 2011-12, which is 26.3% higher than the allocation of 2010-11.
