DPIIT to appoint agency for scrutinising government tenders
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has decided to involve private agencies in order to scrutinize the tenders of the government for compliance with public procurement regulations that are meant for promoting ‘Make in India’ products in the world. The DPIIT has already floated a proposal in order to invite the proposals from the interested agencies.
Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017
The government issued this in 2017 in order to promote the production of goods and services in India and increase the income and employment in the country. This order had the only objective of incentivizing the manufacturing of products within the country. It also encouraged the involvement of the private sector in the whole process. This order is applicable to the procurement of goods and services and works, including that of the government departments. Only local suppliers are allowed under this for the procurement value of less than Rs 50 lakhs.
The objective of the Current Decision
The recent decision has been taken in order to assist and support the public procurement department under the DPIIT to implement the procurement guidelines by scrutinizing tenders of central government procuring entities, including the CPSUs and autonomous bodies. A portal has also been designed in this regard to keep a track of the reports submitted by the agency and the corrective actions to be taken in this regard.
