Diphtheria
Diphtheria is an infectious disease that affects the nose, throat and skin. It is caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae bacteria that is transmitted through coughing, sneezing or close contact with infected person. The bacteria produces the diphtheria toxin that leads to acute infections. It can be fatal if left untreated. According to a recent report, the disease could become a major health threat again due to increasing antibiotic resistance and disruptions in vaccination schedules.
