“Digital Seva Setu Programme” launched by Gujarat Government for rural areas

On October 6, 2020, the Gujarat State Government launched “Digital Seva Setu Programme” for rural areas. The programme was launched under the Bharat Net Project of the Centre.

Highlights

The programme connects village panchayats and will provide twenty types of pro-people services. This includes providing ration cards at door steps. It is a digital form of the “Seva Setu” Programme.

Benefits

The programme will help people to receive public welfare services at Panchayat level. Under the programme, the gram panchayats are to be connected to the state data centre at Gandhinagar. This will help in integration of data. The citizens should pay Rs 20 to avail the benefits of the programme. The programme will help to transform 18,000 villages of Gujarat into modern and global villages.

During the first phase of the programme, 2,000 village panchayats are to be covered. The rest of the villages are to be covered in 2021. Thereby, the programme will encompass all the villages of the state making “Digital Seva Setu” an integrated and dedicated platform in time ahead.

Background

The programme will help India achieve the targets of Digital India Mission. The villages are to be connected with 100 MBps optical fibre network. This is being done to make every village a mini Sachivalay.

Seva Setu Programme

The Seva Setu Programme was started in 2016 by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Around two crore people have been benefitted from the programme so far. It is an initiative of the Gujarat Government to reach to the door step of the citizens to ensure timely redressal of their needs. This is done by organizing camps. A seva setu camp is organised under the supervision of sub divisional officer for a cluster of eight to ten villages.

Through this, the Government of Gujarat provides individual and collective solutions at door steps.
