Digital India Initiative: 4,740 Service Centres Launched

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announced the launch of the Digital India Common Service Centre (DICSC) project. This initiative targets rural areas in India, aiming to enhance digital access for citizens. The rollout will begin in Pilibhit and Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Aim of the DICSC Project

The primary goal of the DICSC project is to bridge the digital divide in rural India. It seeks to provide essential e-governance, financial, and commercial services to citizens. By doing so, it aims to improve the quality of life and empower local communities.

Implementation Plan

MeitY plans to establish 4,740 model DICSC centres across 10 districts in India. These centres will be set up in gram panchayats, ensuring that rural populations have access to digital services. The implementation will be phased, starting with key districts.

Distribution of Service Centres

Pilibhit: 720 service centres, Gorakhpur: 1,273 service centres, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra): 870 centres, Chamba (Himachal Pradesh): 309 centres, Khammam (Telangana): 589 centres, Gandhinagar (Gujarat): 288 centres, Mamit (Mizoram): 100 centres, Jodhpur (Rajasthan): 415 centres, Leh (Ladakh): 95 centres, Puducherry: 81 centres. This distribution ensures a wide-reaching impact across various states.

Services Offered

The DICSC centres will provide a range of services. These include:

  • E-governance services for easier access to government schemes
  • Financial services such as banking and insurance
  • Commercial services to support local businesses

These services will empower citizens and promote digital literacy.
