‘DigiShala’ – 24-hour TV channel for cashless lessons
The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has launched a new TV channel named ‘DigiShala’ to promote digital transactions. DigiShala is a free-to-air channel to educate people about digital payment and encourage people to adopt digital payments in their everyday life. It is made available on DTH service. The channel will be airing shows in Hindi and English initially to target the rural and suburban population to inform them of various aspects of going digital like e-wallet, UPI, USSD, AADHAAR and usage of cards through talk shows and demonstrations. The service will be extended later to other local languages as well.
Different modes of digital payment currently available are: Cards, USSD, digital wallets, Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) and Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
Cashless Economy is when the flow of cash within an economy is non-existent and all transactions have to be through electronic channels such as credit and debit cards, electronic clearing etc.
