Dhekiajuli
Dhekiajuli is a town with historical significance in Assam. This ‘martyr’ town is known in association with the Indian National Movement- particularly the Quit India Movement of 1942. During the movement, the Mrityu Bahini or Death Squads marched across Assam to unfurl the tricolor flag atop various police stations. In Dhekiajuli, these squads were shot at by the British administration. Tileswari Barua, a 12 year old member of the squad, was one of the victims.
