DGCA Issues Advisory for Gender Equality in Aviation by 2025

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has recently issued a critical advice circular to improve gender equality in Indian civil aviation in response to recent events. This project aims to make sure that by 2023, at least 25% of women are working in different aviation jobs.

Objectives of the Gender Equality Initiative

A circular stresses the need for “enhanced representation” of women in all parts of the airline business. Some of the most important suggestions are to create leadership and mentoring programs just for women and to deal with and fix gender biases and stereotypes that are already out there.

Strategic Approaches and Recommendations

The DGCA advises the following strategic steps to fight gender inequality:

  • Promoting Work-Life Balance: Making rules that help women in aviation have a better balance between their work and home lives.
  • Leadership and Mentorship Programs: Making plans for programs that will help women develop their leadership skills and get help from teachers.
  • Dealing with Biases and Stereotypes: Raising awareness and teaching appropriate actions to get rid of bias and stereotypes at work.
  • Zero Tolerance towards Sexual Harassment: There will be no tolerance for any kind of sexual harassment in the field, and strict rules will be put in place to stop it.
  • Setting Diversity Goals: To reach these goals, it’s important to set clear diversity goals and make sure that the right Human Resources policies are in place.
  • Role Model Promotion:  Promoting successful women in flight as role models to encourage and inspire others.

Alignment with National and International Standards

The memo not only follows the Indian Constitution’s rules on equal rights for men and women, but it also supports the goals of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This worldview emphasizes the dedication to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of gender, has the same chances.
