Dengue hits record high of 18 years in Bangladesh

After a huge outbreak in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh dengue has spread to different districts outside capital. Number of dengue cases in Bangladesh has reached its highest level in past 18 years.  The 1st case was detected in country in 2000.

Key Highlights

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) 10528 patients have been infected with dengue as of July 2019 and close to 700 more people were reported in July last week with dengue infection across the country.

8 people have died in current spate of dengue outbreak but numbers are likely to be much higher going by reports coming from various parts of country and delay in collecting information by official agencies.

Latest Data from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) shows that out of 800 beds in medicine department, 561 were occupied by dengue patients and with each passing day hospitals in Dhaka are being crowded with dengue patients.
