Delhi: First in India to introduce online enrolments for Voter ID Cards
Recently, Delhi became the first territory in India to introduce online enrolments for voter ID Cards, when the chief electoral officer of Delhi provided for online registration for the same.
This is expected to cut down on procedural delays and corruption in public dealing. The scheme was launched on October 1 and so far, 6,000 applications have been received.
The objective is to encourage youngsters to become responsible voters. A major chunk of this population is active on social networking sites and the youngsters have been asked to enrol online just like they update their Facebook statuses. The directorate of education will issue directions to government and private schools to encourage students, who are already 18 or will turn 18 by next year, to enrol online. As per the official data, there are approximately 4 lakh eligible voters who are uncovered by the enrolment process in Delhi. Website to enrol is www.ceodelhi.nic.in
