Defence Ministry signs MoU with IPFC and NRDC

In a major boost to Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Intellectual Property Facilitation Cell (IPFC), Department of Defence Production, Union Ministry of Defence and National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

Key Highlights of MoU

The partnership between IPFC and NRDC is expected to bridge capacity shortfall and provide a major fillip to ongoing efforts of MoD towards promoting a culture of Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Indian Defence industry.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has also approved Action Plan 2019-20 of MRGS which includes training of additional 20,000 personnel from Public/ Private Sector Industry and Armed Forces on relevance of IP Culture to Indian Defence manufacturing industry. The Action Plan will also institute a framework which enables full utilization of new ideas and innovation towards achieving self-reliance in defence sector.

About Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti

It was launched with aim to inculcate Intellectual Property (IP) culture in Indian Defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Under the mission, an Intellectual Property Facilitation Cell (IPFC) has been established under aegis of Directorate General Quality Assurance (DGQA). Within a short span of a year IPFC has achieved challenging target of training over 12,000 personnel on IPR and facilitating filing of over 1000 new IPR applications.

Objective: To promote, develop and commercialise technologies, know-how, patents, inventions and processes emanating from various national R&D institutions or Universities.

It is presently working under administrative control of Dept. of Scientific & Industrial Research, Union Ministry of Science & Technology.
