Defence Accounts Department Partners With Banks for SPARSH Centres
The Defense Accounts Department (DAD) of the Ministry of Defense recently teamed up with four banks to improve its SPARSH (System for Pension Administration, RAKSHA) program. The Bank of India, the Canara Association, the Central Bank of India, and the Utkarsh Small Finance Bank are some of these. These banks will set up SPARSH service centers in 1,128 branches across the country through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). This move aims to improve pension administration and ensure that payments are made directly to beneficiaries without intermediaries.
What is SPARSH?
SPARSH is a web-based platform designed to streamline the process of pension claims for defense personnel. By providing a direct deposit system, the initiative ensures that pensions are disbursed timely and securely. The recent expansion via new MoUs will offer comprehensive coverage, enabling access to services even in the most remote locations.
What are the Services Offered by SPARSH Centres?
The newly named SPARSH service centers at bank offices will be very important for pensioners to get in touch with. Services include updating profiles, filing complaints, getting digital IDs once a year, and getting full pension information every month. For people who can’t use the web-based system directly, these centers are meant to fill in the gaps.
Benefits and Accessibility
At these centers, SPARSH services are available for free because DAD pays for all small service fees. This project is a part of a bigger plan that includes more than 199 DAD-only service centers across the country and over 26,000 branch sites of 15 different banks. There are also more than 3.75 lakh shared service centers across the country, which makes the network of help available to defense pensioners much bigger.
Strategic Impact of SPARSH
The SPARSH plan is a big step forward in managing defense pensions because it makes the system more efficient, responsive, and open. By making it easier and more reliable to file for pensions, the Ministry of Defense continues to support its employees well, making sure that national resources are used in an honest way and that former service members get their money on time.
