According to figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), India passed the United Kingdom (UK) to become the fifth-largest economy in the world in the last quarter of 2021.
The United States, China, Japan, and Germany are the only nations ahead of India. However, in terms of per capita income, which is a measure of how much money is made per person in a country, India is ranked 122 out of 190 countries.

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) has undertaken to set up India’s first-ever ‘Night Sky Sanctuary’ in Ladakh which will be completed within next three months.
The Dark Sky Reserve will be located at Hanle, Ladakh as a part of Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. It will boost Astro-tourism in India. An MoU was signed among the UT administration, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).

Notes:
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the West Bengal government to pay Rs 3,500 crore as ‘compensation’ for violating the norms for the management of solid and liquid waste.
The Bengal government has the option to seek a review by the tribunal or move the Supreme Court. The bench has asked the state to deposit the amount within two months dedicated to solid waste management in the state and it will be operated according to the directions of the Chief Secretary.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 30th Southern Zonal Council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
In the meeting, 26 issues were discussed, 9 issues were resolved and 17 issues were reserved for further consideration. The main objectives of the Zonal Council meeting are settlement Centre- State disputes and inter-state disputes through mutual agreement, promotion of regional cooperation between States, among others

Justice D Y Chandrachud, the second senior-most judge in the Supreme Court, has been nominated as executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority.
President Droupadi Murmu nominated Justice Chandrachud to head the NALSA as executive chairman under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. The Chief Justice of India is the patron-in-chief of the NALSA.
