The 19th Divya Kala Mela was inaugurated in Visakhapatnam by Andhra Pradesh Governor Shri S. Abdul Nazeer. Rs 40 lakh in concessional loans were provided to 10 Divyang beneficiaries under NDFDC schemes. Assistive devices were distributed with support from CSR partners HPCL, GAIL India, and IOCL. The fair showcased products from 100 Divyang artisans across 20 states/UTs, promoting “Vocal for Local” and financial independence. The event runs from September 19 to 29, featuring cultural performances and food stalls. Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar praised the platform for empowering Divyangjan and the Ministry’s commitment to inclusion. Dignitaries took a Swachhata Pledge for hygiene and community responsibility.

The International WASH Conference 2024, organized by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, held from September 17-21 in New Delhi. It aims to promote dialogue and collaboration for equitable and efficient water resource use for current and future generations. The conference theme is ‘Sustaining Rural Water Supply’ and will focus on addressing global water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) challenges. It serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, showcasing innovations, and best practices. The event has a special focus on achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).

Punjab won the 14th Hockey India Junior Men’s National Championship 2024 by defeating Uttar Pradesh at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The match ended in a 3-3 draw and was decided by a shootout, where Punjab emerged victorious with a 4-3 score. Haryana secured third place by defeating Karnataka 5-0.

Nadi Utsav 2024 was inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in New Delhi. The 5th edition of the festival focuses on the theme ‘Rivers in Reverse: Making of a Lifeline’, highlighting river ecosystems and their cultural importance. The first day featured various activities, including a photo exhibition of the Kansabati River, a unique boat display, and paintings by school students centered around rivers. The three-day event runs from 10 AM to 8 PM at IGNCA with free public entry.

The Square Kilometer Array (SKA), the world’s largest radio telescope, has started its first observations, marking partial functionality. SKA is an international mega science project aiming to build the most sensitive radio telescope to explore advanced scientific goals. It is located in Australia (SKA-Low) and South Africa (SKA-Mid), with its operational headquarters in the UK. SKA-Low in Australia consists of 1,31,072 antennas, each two meters tall, and operates in the 50-350 MHz frequency range. SKA-Mid in South Africa includes 197 large parabolic dish antennas and works in the 350 MHz – 15.4 GHz range, offering the largest observational bandwidth.
