Notes:
Delhi became the 28th legislature in India to adopt the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) for a paperless legislative process. Nagaland was the first state to implement National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) in 2022. Delhi Legislative Assembly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi on 22 March 2025. The MoU was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta. NeVA is a digital platform under the Digital India Initiative, developed to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s One Nation One Application vision. It is managed by the Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

The 6th edition of Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain – 2025 was launched in Panchkula, Haryana on World Water Day, 22 March 2025. It focuses on 148 water-stressed districts across India. This was the first time the campaign was launched outside New Delhi. It promotes water conservation awareness and community participation. The campaign runs during the monsoon season. The initiative was launched by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti in partnership with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and the Government of Haryana. The 2025 campaign theme is “Peoples’ Action for Water Conservation – Towards Intensified Community Connect.”

Amid tensions with the United States, Iran installed missile systems on the disputed islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa near the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, specifically the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Musandam (Oman). It connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. Iran is on the north coast, while the UAE is on the south coast. The strait is 167 kilometers long, with a width ranging from 39 to 95 kilometers. It allows the passage of large vessels despite narrowing towards the north. Key islands in the strait include Hengam, Hormuz, and Qishm. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global trade route, with 30% of the world’s liquefied gas and 25% of oil passing through it.

Researchers discovered a new freshwater algae species, Sheathia rosemalayensis, in Rosemala, Kollam district, Kerala. It was named after Rosemala, the place where it was found. Sheathia species are extremely rare in India, with only one previously reported from the Himalayas. Sheathia rosemalayensis is documented only in the southern Western Ghats, a unique geographic region. Other species in the Sheathia genus, like S. assamica, S. indonepalensis, and S. dispersa, have wider distributions across Assam, Nepal, Indonesia, Taiwan, and the Hawaiian Archipelago.

Eminent Hindi poet and writer Vinod Kumar Shukla from Chhattisgarh has been selected for the 59th Jnanpith Award 2024. He is the first from Chhattisgarh and the 12th Hindi writer to receive this prestigious award. The 58th Jnanpith Award 2023 was awarded to Jagadguru Rambhadracharyaji for Sanskrit and Gulzar for Urdu. The Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust administers the Jnanpith and Moorti Devi Awards. The first Jnanpith Award was given to Malayalam writer G. S. Kurup. Vinod Kumar Shukla, born in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, is 88 years old and studied Krishi Vigyan in Jabalpur. His first poetry collection “Lagbhag Jai Hind” was published in 1971.
