The Delhi government approved the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana on International Women’s Day. The Ministry of Defence signed a $248 million contract with Russia’s Rosoboronexport for 1000 HP engines for T-72 tanks. The engines will be delivered in fully formed, completely knocked down, and semi knocked down conditions. T-72 tanks, a key part of the Indian Army’s fleet, currently have 780 HP engines. The Soviet-designed T-72 was introduced in 1971 and is widely used globally. It was designed by Uralvagonzavod in the Soviet Union. T-72 tanks are locally manufactured and upgraded at Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi. The tank features high-accuracy sighting systems and an automatic loading mechanism for efficient firing.

Siddhant Banthia of India and Alexander Donski of Bulgaria won the doubles title at the 2025 Rwandan Challenger tennis tournament. This was Siddhant Banthia’s first ATP Challenger title. Valentin Foyer of France won the singles title. The Rwandan Challenger was an ATP 100 tournament with a $160,000 prize pool, held in Kigali from 3-9 March 2025. Singles and doubles winners earned 100 ATP points each. The singles winner received $22,730, while the doubles winners shared $7,960. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) organizes tournaments for professional men’s tennis players, with the ATP Tour being the highest level.

Lithuania exited the Convention on Cluster Munitions, citing security concerns over Russia, drawing criticism from human rights groups. The Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) bans the use, production, transfer, and stockpiling of cluster bombs. It was adopted on May 30, 2008, and enforced on August 1, 2010. The treaty has 112 member states and 12 signatories yet to ratify it. Major nations like India, the U.S., Russia, China, Ukraine, and Israel have not signed due to strategic concerns. The CCM aims to prevent civilian harm and supports global peace, human rights, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The U.S. has withdrawn from the Loss and Damage Fund (LDF), a setback for global climate justice efforts. The fund was created at the 2022 UNFCCC Conference (COP27) in Egypt. LDF provides financial aid to regions facing losses due to climate change, including rising sea levels, extreme weather, and crop failures. Developing nations, especially small island states, sought compensation from richer countries. Around $750 million has been pledged, with the U.S. contributing $17.5 million before withdrawing. The fund is managed by a Governing Board, with the World Bank as an interim trustee for four years.
